When was the last time you felt bad, sad, or angry? How did you handle these emotions?
Emotions are like waves. When we resist them, they will forcefully come back to us. If we feel pain, trying to deny it will only make it hurt more. If we feel anxious, trying to “relax” probably won’t work very well. The pain and anxiety are still there. They’ll just keep coming back until we pay attention to them. At best, it leads to short-term relief but usually backfires over time as our fear responses reinforce the unhelpful old stories in our minds.
